The Preventive man is a natural sports man ... Here is Costao

Shri Costao Fernandes was born in a humble peasant family in a small village of Assolna in Goa on 09.08.1954.

He joined Goa Custom House on 29/9/79 as a Preventive Officer. He represented Goa Custom House in Soccer and Athletics in Senior Foot ball Division League and all India Central Revenue Sports Meet. He was promoted to the post of Superintendent of Customs on 30/9/96. He represents Mumbai Custom House in athletics in All India Central Revenue Sports Meets. He has won 53 Gold Medals in Sub-Zone; 30 Gold, 18 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals in West Zone and 24 Gold, 24 Silver and 4 Bronze in All India Central Revenue Sports Meets so far. He has also won 3 silver and 4 Bronze Medals in the past in All India Civil Services Sports Meets in 1979. He is also a winner of 1 Gold, 4 silver and 2 Bronze Medals in athletics at the Veteran National Championship from 2000 to 2004. He has won 1 Bronze Medal in 11th Asian Veteran Athletics Championship in 2000, He secured 4th place in 400 mts. in the World Veteran Athletics Championship.

This year 2005, he participated in 26th National Masters Athletics Championship held at Chennai and won 4 Gold Medals in 100, 200, 400 mts. and 4 x 400 mts relay. He also represented India in 13th Asian Masters Athletics Championship in Bangkok and secured Gold Metal in 400 mts hurdles. He is selected to represent India in the 16th World Masters Athletics Championship which will be held in Spain and also for 2nd World Masters Athletic Championship to be held in Australia from 15th to 25th March 2006.

Apart from his sporting zeal, he also has shown extra ordinary courage and intelligence to fight smuggling as his preventive duty and own the President's Certificate of Appreciation for Meritorious Services in 1999.
